Detective Alsop sat across from Glen Fryer in the interrogation room. It was the evening of Fryer’s arrest.

“What can you tell me about the attack on Mrs. Harrison on the evening of December 11, 1969, in the area of Hubrey Road on the Fourth Concession of Westminster Township?” Alsop asked.

“I was not in that area, or involved in this incident . . . I was not involved in this incident in that area at that time or any other date . . . [Dr. Murphy] has a secretary and I believe the secretary is the woman named by you, Elizabeth Harrison.”

“Can you remember Mrs. Murphy telling you anything about Mrs. Harrison involved with the police?” asked Alsop. He knew that Glen Fryer had a particularly close relationship with Dorothea Murphy. It would track that he’d heard about the drama.

“You mean the bad experience she had in which she was attacked?”

“Yes.”

“Yes, on one occasion, Mr. and Mrs. Murphy and I discussed this incident in their home in their kitchen . . . it would have to be after Christmas.”

Fryer asked if he could call his wife. Afterwards, he said, “May I make one more statement that would make all of this unnecessary? The day of December 11, I went home from school between 4:30 and 5, helped get supper, and was with my family until a while after 7. My wife was there and my four children were there. Around 8, they went shopping.”

He volunteered a sample of saliva and made eight handwriting samples, copying out the address of the Harrison home. These would be compared to the threatening notes that Betty Harrison had received. Afterwards, Alsop and Topham drove him to OPP headquarters, where he was held in custody. Later, he was released from custody on $5,000 bail.
